Peterborough Photographic Society – Safety Guidelines for Outings

  1.  It is expected that all PPS members will use common sense and have safety as a priority on outings.
  2. Listen carefully to instructions from the Outings Coordinator at the start of outings.
  3. You are responsible for your own safety and the safety of your family, children and guests during outings.
  4. The Outings Director will indicate ahead of time if an outing is an Adult Only event.
  5. Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for weather and environmental conditions. Layers are recommended.
  6. If you happen to be in unfamiliar territory, be aware of where you are and where the larger group is located. It’s recommended that you pair up with another person and carry a cell phone.
  7. Have a timepiece so you can meet at the proper times.
  8. Keep records of your gear in a safe place at home, in case it becomes lost or stolen.
  9. In the event that you become uneasy or unsure in a situation, stay close to people in your group or speak to the Outings Coordinator.
  10. Take water to hydrate, when needed. If shooting in near dark conditions, a flashlight is helpful.
  11. Be respectful of the environment and wildlife. Do not disturb habitats or natural surroundings when trying to get a photograph.
  12. Be careful around uneven terrain, hillsides, cliffs, hanging branches and any other hazards which may occur in the environment.
  13. The Outings Coordinator may cancel an outing due to weather or other unexpected conditions. If an outing is canceled, it will no longer be a PPS sponsored event and members who continue will do so on their own accord and at their own risk.
