Zoom App Installation and Use

1. Download the Zoom Application

The Zoom application is available for Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android devices.
For Windows or MacOS, go to the Zoom Download Center and download the “Zoom Client for Meetings” client (note that a separate link appears on that page for Macs with Apple Silicon chips).

For iPads and iPhones, search for Zoom in the App Store. For Android devices, search for Zoom in Google Play. In either case, install the “ZOOM Cloud Meetings” app.

Use these links to learn about the Zoom app on the most common platforms:

2. Joining a PPS Zoom Meeting

You will receive an email containing the Zoom meeting link within three days prior to the meeting. Guests are welcome to attend one meeting prior to becoming a club member. If you have not received the link, please check your junk email or contact either the Membership Director or Program Director prior to the start of the meeting.

The email you receive will be similar to the one below.

There are two options for opening Zoom to attend a PPS meeting,

Option One: Click the link in the email invitation under “Join Zoom Meeting“. A Zoom window or tab will open in your web browser. A dialogue box should then appear at the top of that web page (it will be black for Macs and white for PCs). Click on “Open zoom.us app“. This should take you directly to the PPS Zoom meeting.

Option Two: Open the Zoom app on your computer. Click on “Join“. You will be prompted for a Meeting ID, enter the Meeting ID from the email invitation. In the example below this would be 546 559 1774 (the number might change between new meeting invitations).

On the screen that appears, choose “Join with Video” and on the next screen, “Join with Computer Audio“. You will be placed into a waiting room, briefly, while we admit you to the meeting.

3. During the Meeting

Once the speaker’s presentation begins, the host will mute all attendees to control background noise, which can be distracting to the presenter and other members. If the speaker permits questions during the talk, you may momentarily un-mute by holding the spacebar on a PC or Mac. Releasing the spacebar automatically returns you to the mute state. Attendees will be unmuted at the end of the presentation to participate in a final question and answer period.

On a PC or Mac your microphone and video states are indicated by the icons in the left end of the tool bar at the bottom of your Zoom display. You can click on these icons to changes their states and thereby mute/unmute your microphone or start/stop your camera.
